Introduction

Sometimes books have catchy titles. Other times, they simply state very clearly what the book is about. This is one of those titles—very straightforward, no mystery as to the topic at hand. But because of the alliteration of the M’s in those three words, I like to refer to the book as M3. Besides, it’s shorter—and we all know how many seconds per day we can save by using acronyms rather than saying the full word.

But I also have a problem with the word “merchandising.” Perhaps it’s not a problem; maybe it’s just a quirk. But every time I hear that word, I think of Spaceballs, the 1987 Mel Brooks movie. It’s a parody of movies such as Star Wars, Star Trek, as well as a few others thrown in for good measure, such as The Wizard of Oz. ...
