Working with Associations and Travel Agents

There are hundreds of lodging associations with thousands of members. Why do innkeepers invest their money and their time to join a national, regional, or local association? What’s in it for them? What’s in it for you?

First, let’s define the terms as used in this chapter:

Guest—A person who stays overnight at a place of lodging.

Innkeeper—A proprietor or manager of an inn. The innkeeper may be the property owner as a sole proprietor, partnership, LLC, or corporation. Or, the innkeeper may be the nonowner manager of the property, with contractual authority for decision making.

Inn—Refers to an independently owned small lodging property; that is, not a franchise, chain, or a flagged property. ...
