Markov processes are the most popular modeling tools for stochastic systems. They are used in communication systems, transportation networks, image segmentation and analysis, biological systems and DNA sequence analysis, random atomic motion and diffusion in physics, social mobility, social networks, population studies, epidemiology, animal and insect migration, queueing systems, resource management, dams, financial engineering, actuarial science, and decision systems. In this second edition, we maintain the same goal as in the first edition, which is to bring into one volume many of the Markovian models that are used in different disciplines.
