jvm.options

The jvm.options file is intended to apply custom, JVM-specific settings to a Cassandra node. The most common configurations applied in this file are those of heap sizing and garbage collection, as covered earlier in this chapter.

jvm.options is a new configuration file added as of Cassandra 3.0. If you are using an older version of Cassandra, these properties should be set inside the cassandra-env.sh file instead.

Here is a list of commonly adjusted properties in jvm.options:

  • -Dcassandra.load_ring_state: This property takes a Boolean value, and determines whether locally-stored gossip information should be used or wiped out at start time.
