This operation triggers the truncating of hints on the local Cassandra node, or even on a remote Cassandra node. If there are more compactions happening for hints due to nodes going down frequently, it can be reduced by triggering it, which clears it and stabilizes the Cassandra cluster:
$CASSANDRA_HOME/bin/nodetool truncatehints
