As discussed in prior chapters, table-level compression can also be specified. Apache Cassandra ships with both the LZ4 and snappy compressor classes, and the LZ4 compressor is used by default. Compression can also be disabled on a table, but this is not recommended. Compression of table data in Cassandra not only leads to a lighter disk footprint, but also to improved performance, due to a smaller amount of disk I/O at operation time.
