Garbage collection

Probably the most noticeable aspect of the JVM is how it manages garbage collection. There are two main garbage collectors used: Concurrent Mark Sweep (CMS) and the G1GC. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and both can be made to perform well with Cassandra.

There is so much information available on JVM garbage collection configuration that an entire book could be written on the subject. As this is out of scope for this book, JVM garbage collection settings will be discussed within the parameters of what works best with Cassandra.
