Payne’s Gray
Payne’s gray is a deep, bluish gray. The bluish note is more or less pronounced depending on the brand.
Payne’s gray can be obtained by combining a carbon black (PBk6) or an iron oxide black (PBk11) with an organic blue, such as phtalo blue (PB15:3) or indanthrone blue (PB60), which is already naturally very dark. This base can then be given some nuance using a little bit of quinacridone violet (PV19).
