When managing a website, it's often nice to have snippets of code or design elements that you can use in one or more places, yet be able to edit without digging into the template files of your theme.
Static blocks allow you to do just that. From creating blocks for footer links to setting up a special promotional block, static blocks are styled in the same manner as you used in the Edit Page Content screen.
Once you create a static block, you can insert it into the Content panel of any page. You can also refer to a static block in a layout XML file. For example, the sample data installation includes a static block entitled Footer Link, with an identifier of footer_links. In the base package
