Chapter 6 Enabling On-Premises Connectivity
Right now, your on-premises locations have resources, and after working through Chapter 5, “Using Virtual Networks,” you have defined virtual networks in Azure that also have resources deployed. In Chapter 4, “Enabling External Connectivity,” I discussed endpoints as a way to connect to services running in virtual machines via the cloud service VIP. If you require a lot of connectivity between on-premises resources and the virtual machines in Azure, using the endpoints is not practical. To compound the problem, data is sent over the Internet, and depending on the type of traffic, that data may not be encrypted.
