Automated unit testing

We can create unit test cases in AX to perform tests for us. We can also use them to test performance by robotically testing the code. We write the test, such as updating a field on a record, and the expected result. This is not always done in a project, and many opt to test manually. There are advantages that a coded unit test has over manual testing, which include the following:

  • The test is repeatable, with little effort
  • It can be used to simulate loads
  • It can be used for regression testing

One of the main sources of end-user frustration, along with consulting and development costs, is regression. This is where a new feature breaks something that previously worked. Using unit test cases is a way to minimize this risk.
