Third-Party Integration

The previous chapter discussed how Lync can be enhanced through integration with other Microsoft products; this chapter discusses how Lync can integrate with third-party systems to perform as the center of a much broader communications platform. By using the standards and protocols covered in Chapter 2, “Standards and Protocols,” Lync can integrate with many systems and gateways to provide translation to other devices and systems. For example, Lync can talk directly to a SIP trunk provider for PSTN connectivity, but it can also communicate via more traditional methods using standard ISDN lines through a PSTN gateway.
