7.1 Introduction

Once the project manager has developed a schedule of work activities, there is a second important role she will play in managing the overall project: control activities to stay on the projected schedule. The project manager and project staff will spend an enormous amount of time collecting and analyzing information for work activities not only to develop the schedule, but also to know how to control each work activity to stay on schedule. Staying on schedule is the first of three primary components—schedule, cost, and quality—covered in this book that project managers need to manage.
