Hydrocarbons in the form of oil and coal are one of the Earth’s most basic yet most important energy resources, mainly in the form of combustible fuels. Hydrocarbons have also, for instance, even replaced chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) as the propellants in aerosol sprays.
