Chapter 3. Working with Volumes
Volumes are three-dimensional spaces programmed to be aware of when an object (such as a player) has entered them. They can then enact a variety of possible effects on that object. They have a wide variety of possible uses in your levels. You can use volumes to simply designate certain parts of the level, affect sounds or post-processes, or to alter the standard laws of physics that exist within Unreal. Volumes can also provide a simple means to handle level streaming, which allows them to replace the older concept of zoning that was used for level optimization in versions of the Unreal Engine prior to 3.
