Microsoft provides excellent free tools in the form of Windows Deployment Services (WDS) and the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT). They offer light touch installation (LTI) methods, whereby an administrator or delegated user can install Windows in an unattended manner with a small amount of effort at the PC. Larger enterprises may want something more. What if you need to deploy Windows 7 to hundreds of PCs at once on a scheduled basis? Are you going to pay dozens of help desk staff the required overtime to run around to all of these PCs to initiate the installation and then verify that Windows and the required applications were installed?
