Active Directory, what a great concept. The word Active implies a kind of dynamic behavior, and the word Directory implies some sort of storing and searching tasks of a component. The phrase also describes what Active Directory is all about: a central place where you store and manage all your users and computers and the behavior of your Windows infrastructure. Active Directory has been around since Windows Server 2000 and has been extended through Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2008 R2.
