13.8. Database Management

The database management activities that are available within WSS beyond the initial creation of a database, whether at install or web application creation time, are focused primarily around backup/restore issues of sites. For anything above and beyond that, you are looking at management using SQL tools.

The backup and restore processes are covered extensively in Chapter 12, "Maintenance and Monitoring," so they won't be covered here. Our focus will be purely on understanding the options within STSADM, not necessarily when to use it.
