Chapter 13. STSADM: A Look at the SharePoint Command Line Tool

In earlier chapters you have probably noticed references to something called STSADM.EXE, and this thought may have entered your mind: "What is STSADM.EXE, and why should I care?"

The answer to the first part of the question—in case you haven't figured it out by now—STSADM.EXE is the command-line administration tool for WSS. The name is a bit of a throwback to when WSS was known as SharePoint Team Services (STS), but nonetheless it is the command-line tool for performing SharePoint administration.

Almost all of the tasks that you have learned to do using the various SharePoint administration tools can be done with STSADM. Quite a few things can be done only with STSADM.
