TERESE NIELSEN
“Creating beauty is a compelling drive, and the idea that beauty
helps evolve the spirit ignites me. I try to incorporate principles
of beauty, harmony, and balance into every illustration, even
if it’s some phantasmic creature for a role-playing game.”
Terese Nielsen spent her childhood on a small farm in
Aurora, Nebraska. Her interest in art led her to enroll
in a junior college in Idaho right after high school. From
there she made her way to the Art Center College of Design
in Pasadena, California, where she earned her degree in
illustration in 1991, graduating with highest honors.
Nielsen began freelancing immediately after graduation,
contributing to everything from theme park design to
editorial illustrations. In 1992, she entered the comic book
eld, illustrating superheroes for numerous collectible
card sets. Soon to follow were fully painted comics for
Marvel, Ruins I and II, and Code of Honor, and covers
for both Topps’ Xena the Warrior Princess and Dark
Horse’s Star Wars line.
She began her long association with Wizards of the Coast
(WOTC) and Magic: The Gathering in 1996. Nielsen has
painted hundreds of images for the renowned game. The
artist has worked with every major gaming company in
the industry. Her artwork can also be found on numerous
book covers, including those published by WOTC, Del
Rey, HarperCollins, and Tor Books. She has received
Temple City, California, USA
A Calculus of Angels. Acrylic/oil/colored pencil/collage.
