Consideration of building materials has never been more important than now. This is because materials themselves make an integral contribution to the sustainability of construction and any pro-sustainable improvements should include a careful consideration of these. Furthermore, contemporary architecture and design are experiencing forces which call for a stronger conceptual and theoretical emphasis on materials. This book is focused on proposing principles for evaluation of building materials in relation to their suitability in sustainable construction. Underlying the discussion is a deep concern for the importance of this emphasis on materials.
