Applied Maths

Mathematics is concerned with ideas – about patterns, connections, numbers, and representations – but nothing in this description requires these ideas to be useful. Many mathematicians have celebrated the abstract character of maths as part of its beauty, setting it apart from other, more applied subjects. The fact remains, however, that many ideas in mathematics are also extremely useful, and have been used by humans to build and change the world around them for thousands of years.
