1 Named after the French analyst and mathematical physicist, Baron de Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier (1768–1830). While investigating heat conduction problems, he developed the theory of Fourier series and used it first in his memorable work Theorie Analytique de la Chaleur. This initiated a great mathematical activity and led to the development of a new branch of mathematics called Fourier Analysis.
