FUNDAMENTALS OF UNDERGROUND COAL GASIFICATION

The fundamentals of underground coal gasification (UCG) are not yet completely unraveled—primarily because of the extreme complexity of the process. Because the phenomenon occurs completely underground, typically at least a few hundred meters below the surface, no “viewing windows” are available, even in the handful of commercial plants that dot the world today.
