To really capture a likeness we need to sweat the details. Every little nuance adds credibility to the model. To avoid having an emotionless character, you need to be able to represent movement of the face.
By and large, we each have our own way of expressing ourselves. The face can express a number of things without a single word. A smile, a frown — each is easily recognizable. In order for our model to best represent the person we are basing it on, we will at some point open the mouth, thus revealing what is inside.
