15. With pelvis_tilt selected, press Ctrl+A. When the Attribute
Editor panel opens, make sure the first tab is selected. Click
on the Limit Information panel. Under Translate, click the
check boxes next to each of the Trans Limits on both the Min
and Max sides. Click on the arrow to the right of the Min col
-
umn and to the left of the Max column for Trans Limit X and
Trans Limit Z. The X and Z boxes should now be set to 0.00.
16. Set the values for the Translate Y to –0.5, 0.00, 0.5. This will
prevent you from moving the pelvis too far. It should have a
subtle motion. We now have our torso pretty well rigged, so
it’s time to move on to the next step, which is to rig the head.
Creating Head Controls
The setup for the head is pretty much identical to that of the pelvis,
only on a smaller scale.
1. Create a new NURBS circle and name it head_control. Rotate
the circle 90 degrees on the Z-axis. Move the head_control up
so that it either encompasses the head joints or sits above
them. Freeze the transforms on the circle.

2. With head_control selected, press Ctrl+A. When the Attrib

Click on the Limit Information panel. Under Translate, click
the check boxes next to each of the Trans Limits on both the
Min and Max sides. Click on the arrow to the right of the Min
column and to the left of the Max column for Trans Limit X, Y,
and Z settings. The X, Y, and Z boxes should now be set to
0.00. Check all of the boxes under the Rotate panel. Set the
Rot Limit X, Y, and Z to 0.00 as well.
3. With head_control selected, go to Modify | Add Attribute
p. When the dialog box opens, type HeadTurn in the Attrib-
ute Name box. Under Numeric Attribute Properties, type –60
for the Minimum value and 60 for the Maximum value. Click
the Add button.
4. Repeat the process to create HeadTilt at –45, 45 and
HeadTwist at –35, 35, then press OK.
5. So now in the Connection Editor, load head_control in the
left side and head in the right side. Select HeadTurn in the
left column and then Rotate X in the right. Next, select
HeadTilt in the left and Rotate Z in the right. Finally, select
HeadTwist and then Rotate Y.
