Skill 12 Make Inferences

Did you ever hear the phrase “read between the lines”? That is what making inferences is all about. When you make an inference, you read the author’s words, but then you combine that information with your own knowledge from experience or reading to figure out what the author is really saying. Your inference is what you think the author really means but did not say straight out.

An inference may be something quite simple. For example, you may see an advertisement for a computer at a special sale price.
