2.1. Introducing Windows Deployment Services
The primary purpose of Windows Deployment Services (WDS) is to provide a simplified method of rapidly deploying Windows operating systems over the network.
You can use Windows Deployment Services to install and configure Microsoft Windows operating systems remotely on computers that are Preboot Execution Environment (PXE, pronounced "pixie") enabled. A PXE client computer may not have an operating system, but it has the capability to boot to the network.
After booting to the network, the client can access the WDS server to install one of the following operating systems:
Windows Server 2008
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2003
Windows XP
