Layers and Nests

As you may recall from the previous lesson, whenever you add an effect to a clip, you create a nest, and you can step into that nest and apply additional effects. It is even possible to add video tracks within a nest and create self-contained effects. This can be extremely useful as it allows you to do things such as add a title to the contents of a PIP and use the PIP effect parameters to animate both the clip and the title. Let’s do that to add a lower-third title to the PIP we created at the beginning of the sequence.

To add a title to a PIP:

1. Move the position indicator to the first clip in the sequence.

2. If necessary, turn on track V2.

3. Click the STEP IN button at the bottom of the Timeline to step into the PIP. The ...
