<p>Das Buch bietet eine umfassende Einführung in den aktuellen Stand der Medienlinguistik. So werden einerseits grundlegende kommunikationstheoretische Begriffe der Medienlinguistik vorgestellt ("Autor", "Medientext", "Intertextualität" usw.), andererseits werden - nach einem kurzen historischen Rückblick - die wichtigsten sprachlichen Phänomene in den heutigen deutschsprachigen Massenmedien Presse, Radio und Fernsehen an aktuellem Beispielmaterial beschrieben (Mündlichkeit und Schriftlichkeit, das sprachliche Profil des "Moderators", mediale Textsorten, insbesondere Nachrichten und ihre narratologischen Aspekte, Standardsprache und Dialekte etc.). Dabei ist auch das Verhältnis der Sprache zu anderen Zeichensystemen (Bilder, Geräusche) zu berücksichtigen. Ein Ausblick auf die "neuen" Medien soll skizzieren, wie "neue" und "alte" Medien sich zueinander verhalten.
