Read Notifications
Under previous versions of iOS, notifications were a hassle. If an app put up a notice—for example, I use Boxcar (www.boxcarapp.io) to alert me when I receive Facebook or Twitter direct messages—it appeared as a solitary box, obscuring everything else. iOS 5 revamps notifications, making them much more useful.
You can read notifications at any time by swiping down with one finger from the top of the screen (Figure 23). Tap an item to go directly to it in the appropriate app. To hide the drawer, drag it back to the top of the screen.
