class of service (CoS).

A classification whereby different data packets that belong to a certain class receive similar quality of service.

committed burst size (CBS).

A parameter associated with CIR that indicates the size up to which subscriber traffic is allowed to burst in profile and not be discarded or shaped.

committed information rate (CIR).

The minimum guaranteed throughput that the network must deliver for the service under normal operating conditions.

component link.

A subset of a bigger link. A channel within a SONET/SDH channelized interface is an example of a component link.

control plane.
