When I saw a headline recently indicating 40 percent of remote workers would quit their jobs if their bosses required them to go back to the office full time, my immediate thought was, “Have they been talking to my friends?” Most of my friends in the IT industry would much rather skip the commute back to work, even if it meant working longer than standard business hours.
As it turns out, this preference isn’t just a Gen X thing. Millennials and Gen Zs have also embraced the trials and tribulations of remote work. On the downside, it’s easy to blur the lines between work time and family time, and sometimes it’s hard to focus on a meeting when neighbors start mowing their lawns. The upside, however, far outweighs the downside. Remote work saves a lot of money, not just from gas and car insurance, but also from the wardrobe!
