These days it seems like everyone — including the tipsy drunk about to fall off the bar stool — has an opinion about everything and is eager to pontificate. Just check out your social media feed to see what I mean.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with having an opinion. I, for one, have an opinion about many things (my husband would say I have an opinion about everything — insert smiley here), but I try to be careful (at least outside my home) about when to share those opinions.

There are times, however, when your opinion as a subject matter expert is not up for debate. When you have knowledge or information that can benefit others, there is value in sharing what you know to a large group of people in a structured but interactive forum. In such a forum, your role and the participants’ roles are clear: You are speaking with authority and the participants are listening to benefit from your expertise.
