In this chapter, I cover the task of migrating on-premises data and applications into Azure. The good news is that Microsoft provides many tools to make the process easier. I also discuss how to create a hybrid cloud in which you extend your on-premises network infrastructure into an Azure virtual network.
Data Migration Options
Managing data on-premises can be both expensive and stressful. There’s data resiliency to consider, as well as disaster recovery. You have security issues such as data encryption, and you have to be concerned about running out of space and having to make additional capital expenditures to expand your local storage fabric.
For these reasons and more, you may want or need to move local data into Azure. You have three options for doing that:
- Blob copy
- Azure Data Box
- Azure Migrate
