When you are first introduced to cloud computing, it’s usually because someone told you that they need to either migrate their data center workloads into the cloud or run self-contained systems to the Internet without the organization paying extra for the hardware. Sound familiar? The virtual machine (VM) is synonymous with cloud computing and remains one of Azure’s top features, hands down.
But here is the reality: As you have probably already figured, the VM is not the be-all and end-all in Azure. There is a purpose for Azure VMs — when you need full-stack control of the environment you run. And there is no shortage of ways to deploy an operating system on a VM, whether it be Windows, Linux, or another platform in Azure.
