Moving to the cloud isn’t something that can happen suddenly. Organizations must plan out the process. Whether creating a simple virtual machine (VM) or relocating an entire data center, you need to think about each stage of the process, including application planning, development, delivery, and operations.

Microsoft Azure includes a collection of Software as a Service (SaaS)–based development and operations (DevOps) tools to help organizations get to the finish line. Each phase of a cloud transition requires specific capabilities. Some transitions might require a place to store code, while others require project management. Built as a platform inside Azure, all Azure DevOps tools are cloud-based instead of on the desktop, so different project phases can be linked seamlessly. The old saying that there is an “app for that” is applicable in this case and is what this chapter covers.
