Microsoft BizTalk Server 2010 is Microsoft’s seventh-generation integration server. The first incarnation was in 1999, when it was released to meet enterprise application integration (EAI) needs. There have been new releases on a fairly regular basis, roughly every 2 years. BizTalk Server 2004, the third release, was a rewrite, because the .NET Framework had appeared. As the platform has evolved, and as new standards such as the WS-* specifications have emerged, BizTalk Server has adopted them.
