Chapter 9. Administering Recipients
An Exchange recipient is anything you can send an e-mail message to; this includes mailboxes, contacts, mail-enabled groups, and mail-enabled public folders. These recipients show up in your organization's address lists.
In most organizations, much of the Exchange Server administrative work is spent doing recipient administrative tasks. In a large organization, you may have a person whose designated task is to manage recipients. Even in large organizations, though, Exchange Server and Active Directory administrators need some familiarity with the recipient administration tasks.
Almost all recipient administration tasks are performed easily through the graphical user interface. However, the Exchange Management Console is good for doing only one thing at a time, whereas you can manipulate the Exchange Management Shell to help you perform tasks in bulk.
In this chapter, I will cover the different types of mail-enabled recipients and review some of the tools for creating and managing them. I will follow up with some tips and examples for using the Exchange Management Shell for performing single tasks as well as bulk tasks.
