Message security and protection in Exchange

Microsoft succinctly describes the goal of its anti-malware feature set in Exchange: to identify, block, and remove malicious content from the stream of incoming email. In a similar vein, the goal of the anti-spam features in Exchange is to identify and remove or quarantine spam messages. The difference is that quarantining malware is too risky—a careless or inexperienced user or administrator might accidentally release a piece of malware from quarantine. The risk is much lower for accidentally releasing a spam message.
