Chapter 9. Special Cases

So far, we've only considered the most common uses for Hyper-V clusters. Sometimes, consolidation and resource maximization are not the primary drivers for a high availability virtualization solution. Some environments may have their own particular requirements that aren't covered in the documentation. The purpose of this chapter is to examine some of these special cases and explain how and why they can be implemented in a Hyper-V Server cluster. We will look at:

  • Non-highly-available virtual machines in a cluster
  • A cluster with only one virtual machine
  • A cluster with a single host
  • Domain controllers in a Hyper-V Server cluster
  • Storing a single virtual machine's files across multiple locations
  • Geographically distributed clusters ...
