Providing Remote Access

The primary functionality a Lync Edge Server provides is remote access to the entire Lync environment. One of the most compelling Lync Server features is the fact that a client seamlessly operates identically whether the user is in the office or is working remotely without a VPN, and that functionality is driven by the Edge Server. The Edge Server provides a secure channel for users to sign in remotely, leverage web conferencing, conduct audio/video calls, and even make and receive PSTN phone calls using the Lync client. Deploying an Edge Server to support this functionality is a common part of nearly every Lync server deployment because of the flexibility it provides to an organization’s workforce.
