Chapter 1. Essential Office Techniques

Many basic operations in Office 2008, such as starting a new document, opening an existing document, saving your work, using common interface elements, working with various types of content, and getting help, apply to all or most Office applications. Rather than repeat this information throughout the book, we’ll cover it here.

Launching Office Applications

You can launch Office applications in the same manner as other OS X applications—plus some Office-specific ways.

To launch an Office application

  • Do one of the following:

    1. Click the application icon in the Dock (Figure 1.1).

      If the Office applications are in the Dock, click an icon to launch the application.
