Adding and formatting chart elements

In addition to the big color blocks (or pie slices or lines) and the title or labels added to your chart by default, there are other elements that you can add to help make your chart more clear for your readers. You might want to add gridlines, for example, or error bars. And, if you haven’t added a chart title or legend, you might want to do that to help readers see clearly what the different data items on your chart represent.

Add chart elements

  1. Click anywhere in the chart to select it.

  2. Click the Chart Elements button.

  3. Select the check boxes adjacent to the elements that you want to add.
