Many of the basic tasks you’ll perform in your Office programs will be similar from app to app. You’ll need to know how to open a new file in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Publisher, for example. You can easily open a new file on the Start screen for the different apps, and you can also click the File tab and then choose New to start the process.
Launch the Office app you want to use.
On the app Start screen, click Blank Document to open a new, blank file.
Alternatively, click and enter a type of template for which to search.
Scroll through the results list.
Click the template that you want to use as the basis for the new file.
