Working with tabs, indents, and margins

It might sound funny, but the unused space on your page is as important to your document as the words on the page. That’s because the unused space gives readers’ eyes a rest and sets off the rest of the page so the entire layout is as readable as possible. You can use tabs, indents, and page margins to control the amount of space on your page, and to align the text as it appears in the space.

Display the ruler

  1. Display the document with which you want to work.

  2. Click the View tab.

  3. In the Show group, select the Ruler check box.
