When you customize a non-publishing page, your changes are immediately visible to visitors to that page. When the page you need to customize is the home page of a site, you may not want your changes to be immediately visible. If you do not have the SharePoint Server’s Web Content Management functionality available to you, an alternative to modifying the home page is to create a new page based on the home page, complete the customization on the new page, and then make the new page the home page for the site.
In this exercise, you will change the default page for a site and then test that the change was implemented successfully.
