Managing Content Placeholders and Content Regions

The content placeholder control is a key component of a master page. It is placed on the master page where content will eventually appear. When a user requests a page, the components from a content page are placed in content placeholders specified on the master page. A master page typically has a number of content placeholders, the most important of them being PlaceHolderMain, which usually maps to the region on the master page where the elements from the content page should be placed.
