This chapter is not the definitive source for capacity planning and monitoring, nor was it meant to be. In fact, such a resource does not exist. There are too many variables when implementing SharePoint Server 2007 in any environment, especially large and complex ones. But you have been provided a usable resource to begin planning, testing, and monitoring your SharePoint Server 2007 implementations. At a minimum, you must do the following if you want a well-running SharePoint Server 2007 server farm:

  • Educate your administrators, developers, power users, and end-users.

  • Sufficiently plan your farm topology.

  • Correctly configure the product.

  • Test your production farm before deployment.

  • Baseline your farm for monitoring.
