Adding Emphasis and Special Formatting

You’ll often want to add special formatting to some text: for example, italics to use in a reference, bold to draw attention to something specific, strikethrough to show what has been deleted, and so on. Word gives you a large array of special formatting options.

Format the Text

  1. Select the text you want to format.

  2. On the Home tab, use any combination of the formatting buttons on the Ribbon to add the formatting you want. Click a button a second time to remove that formatting.
